The Island of Grand Bé
Accessible from the Plage de Bon Secours beach
The uninhabited island of Grand Bé is located at the mouth of the River Rance and can be reached from the Plage de Bon Secours. Buried here is the well-known author François-René de Chateaubriand, who was born in Saint-Malo. Before his death, the author asked to be buried on the island of Grand Bé. You can reach the island on foot at low tide. Beware of the incoming tide - you could get wet or stuck on the island!

The Ramparts

Saint-Vincent Cathedral

St Vincent Cathedral is located at the very centre of the old town. According to tradition, the cathedral's bells are rung at 10 pm every night. Originally, this announced the closure of the citadel's gates. Constructed in the 12th century, the cathedral has been repeatedly rebuilt and extended. It is now classified as a national heritage site.

Saint-Vincent Gate
Make a grand entrance into the old town through its most famous gate, Saint Vincent Gate, which was built in 1708 and is adorned with the town's Coat of Arms. Stroll through Saint-Malo's cobbled streets, take a tour of the ramparts and discover the other gates to this famous city of corsairs.

Quai de Terre Neuve
A Saint-Malo landmark, Étoile du Roy is a 46 m long three-masted, square-sailed frigate. She is a replica of a Saint-Malo corsair ship from the 18th century. The ship is now berthed at the Quai de Terre Neuve and open to visitors throughout the year. She continues to set sail during Breton events. Dive into the history of the Corsair City.
